I was speechless and my lack of reaction made Brian uncomfortable. Releasing the grip on the back of the chair he began to pace back and forth between my chair and the one he had been occupying.

Sitting forward, I turned around to face him. “Do you really think it’s your maker who’s doing this?” I finally managed to ask.

“It would be a very strange coincidence if it weren’t him. That’s not ordinary graffiti on the walls, its Greek writing. Who else would have such a tell-tale trade mark?” he asked genuinely.

“Well, can you feel him?” This was something that I discovered early on in my transformation. Whenever I was away from Brenna for any length of time and then back in her presence, it was then that I actually felt her aura, even when we weren’t in the same room. It was like I knew she was near.

“Personally, I don’t want to feel any kind of connection with him—so no, I haven’t.”

“Well maybe we should tell Mylana about this. I mean, this is kind of huge.”

“Not tonight. It can wait. It’s not like we’ll be able to do anything about this bit of info right now. We don’t even know where he is.” Brian paused. I could tell he was starting to feel more uncomfortable with each passing moment with the idea of his maker being in town. I couldn’t blame him. Ceasing to pace, he looked down at me. The crow’s feet that had been placed there by his mortal life and locked for eternity by his embrace, exposed the worry in his eyes.

“May I stay here tonight? I’ve woken too many nightmares. I fear the asylum will not give me much comfort tonight.”

“Yes, of course.”

Without another word, he walked over to my bed. He slipped out of his boots, removed his button up shirt and dropped it on the floor. Climbing under the duvet, he pulled it up to his chin and took in a deep breath.

“Whoever they were, they smell absolutely scrumptious,” he teased. With that, he rolled over, his back facing me.
